La Casa Mas Alta

In and Around Rancho Santa Ana

The town of San Juan del Sur
Day Trips:

Playa Gigante. Just down the coast is a beautiful little community nestled around a picturesque lagoon.  From here the swimming is easy, boat trips leave for fishing, site seeing or day trips to San Juan Del Sur and there are various little oceansid restaurants to choose from.

Volcan Mombacho.  Mombacho, visible from La Casa Mas Alta, has a multiple zip wire course and striking nature hikes around the crater. Views of Lake Nicaragua and Granada are spectacular.

Granada. The oldest colonial city in the Americas has so much to offer. Known as the safest city in Central America Granada is filled with sensory delights.  From the old central square the colorful colonial architecture will have you walking for hours, stopping here and there for a glass of wine or a bite to eat. For fun, take a horse drawn carriage to see the sites.

Lago Apoyo.  This is truly an amazing site.  This large volcanic lake is perfect for swimming and hiking. From the rim you can see all the way to Granada and lake Nicaragua beyond or drive down and have a meal by the shore. Stunning in it's natural splendor.

San Juan del Sur. This little coastal town is less than two hours drive away but is worth the trip. Originally the embarkation point for gold rush 49ers heading up the coast to California (having arrived via the Atlantic and Lake Nicaragua) the town was rediscovered years ago by surfers and has since become a favorite of  expats. A classic bay with fishing boats and sail boats from around the world it has dozens of sea side eateries and shops. Walk up the hill and have a drink at the famous Pelican Eyes resort with views over the whole town and bay.

Omatepe Island.  In the middle of giant Lake Nicaragua are two majestic volcanos protruding from the water. One is still active.  It is possible to take a ferry to the islands for a day or more and explore this unique environment. Ometepe has become a world class center for the study of permaculture.

Golfing.  Just next door at the Iguna Beach development you can play their 9-hole course with  club rentals available.  The back 9 is currently being developed.

Closer to Home.  Just beyond the gates of Rancho Santa Ana you will find a number of restaurants. The Iguana community next door alone has numerous restaurants and shops.

Beaches.   The five beaches at Rancho Santana, with their dramatic landscapes, are magnificent.   Each beach is unique and magical in its own way.   All of Rancho Santana’s beaches are available for the use of our guests.  Discreet parking areas are near each beach to allow all guests to enjoy them.

Whether it’s sandboarding at Playa Duna, swimming at Los Perros, spending the day at Playa Rosada, picnicking at Playa Escondida, or surfing Playa Santa Ana, the beaches are here for your pleasures.   For more information, please visit: http://www.ranchosantana.com/beaches

Surfing.   The Southwest coast of Nicaragua boasts some of the best uncrowded surf breaks in Central America – with Rancho Santana having four of the best spots right on the property!   The Ranch’s steady offshore breezes – courtesy of the nearby Lake Nicaragua and the Caribbean Sea – combine with perfectly angled coastline to turn Pacific swells into world-class surf conditions almost 330 days out of the year.  No matter the time or tide, there is always something happening for the novice and professional surfer alike, with long beaches and secluded coves offering everything from A-framed beach breaks to classic point breaks.  When the conditions get big, a tow-in session on one of the outer reefs is just a short pang ride away.  Our Front Desk can arrange surfing boat tours with outside providers.

Fishing & Snorkeling.   Surfing isn’t the only thing to do in Rancho Santana’s warm Pacific water; sport fishing, diving, spear fishing, snorkeling and swimming are all just as convenient as the perfect waves.  The coves are havens for lobster, the beaches and rocks are great fishing platforms for red snapper, and just a few miles out on a panga skiff and you can find Wahoo and Mahi mahi.    Please contact Front Desk for more details.  Price is US$120 for 3 hours.

Clubhouse Swimming Pools.   Two pools front Santana Beach near the Clubhouse. They are  perfect for lounging or enjoying a drink or leisurely lunch. The pool bar is a favorite gathering space for sunsets.

Horseback Riding.   We have horse stables here at Rancho Santana.  Many guests enjoy an early morning or sunset horse ride.   Please contact Front Desk for more details.
